MN Dance Company Celebrates Dance at the Heart of Europe’s Cultural Capital

On April 29, the MN Dance Company proudly celebrated International Dance Day, a global occasion that honors the beauty and significance of dance in all its forms. Since its inception in 1982, this day has become a platform to acknowledge the universal language of dance, initially inspired by the initiative of Slovenian dance creator Dr. Henrik Neubauer and dedicated to the legacy of Jean-Georges Noverre, a pivotal figure in modern ballet.

INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAYThe celebration kicked off with a heartfelt welcome, reminding attendees of dance's potential to connect individuals across diverse backgrounds. Each year, a message from a prominent figure in the dance world is shared to inspire and unite all dance styles. This year’s Slovenian message came from Boštjan Antončič, whose reflections on the art of dance highlighted its role as a medium of confrontation and expression rather than mere entertainment.

Throughout the event, dancers from the MN Dance Company took the stage to share their personal interpretations of what dance means to them. Followed by the performance that captured the essence of dance as an honest and vital form of communication.

The event concluded with a call to reflect on the importance of dance in our lives and the need to cherish each moment spent in this expressive art form. As MN Dance Company continues its journey, they invite everyone to partake in upcoming performances, including "Prometheus" on May 6 and the premiere of "Borderless Body" on July 3.

Join us in celebrating dance as a powerful, unifying force, echoing the sentiment by Friedrich Nietzsche: “We should consider every lost day in which we have not danced at least once.” Stay tuned for more exciting events from MN Dance Company!
