Premiere Spotlight: Poetical Body

Poetical Body continues the artistic exploration initiated in the production Prometheus—the myth of the creator who shaped humans from clay and gifted them fire stolen from the gods on Mount Olympus. Fire, as a symbol of consciousness, creativity, and inner light, marked the decisive moment when humanity crossed the threshold from primal existence into awareness. In the myth, Prometheus is aided by Apollo, who reveals how music, dance, and drama—once reserved for the Olympian gods—can ennoble human life.

While Prometheus focused on the radical act of rebellion and the moment of bestowal, Poetical Body turns its gaze toward the consequences of this gift. What does fire awaken in us over time? How does it shape art, culture, imagination, and inner development?

Only through these gifts does the human being become truly human—a poetic body. Without poetics, consciousness, spirit, art, and knowledge, the body remains merely physical, devoid of deeper life. Poetical Body searches for the corporeal expression of poetic thought: in the way movement arises, in bodies that feel, think, and remember. The performance once again delves into archetypal layers of human existence and spiritual evolution.

A body that thinks and feels, that speaks through dance, becomes a vessel of ancient memory and, at the same time, a contemporary reflection of humanity’s ongoing search for meaning and beauty. At the heart of the evening lies a fundamental question: What makes us truly human?

Conceived as a triptych, Poetical Body is a dialogue between different choreographic aesthetics. Alongside MN Dance Company’s house choreographers, two guest choreographers—Luca Signoretti and Maša Kagao Knez—were invited to contribute their distinct choreographic voices and poetic sensibilities. Together, they create a multilayered dance landscape in which myth, body, and movement intertwine, guided by a shared commitment to depth, artistic integrity, and dance.

The premiere was met with a warm and enthusiastic response, confirming Poetical Body as a resonant and powerful continuation of MN Dance Company’s myth-inspired artistic journey.

Through dance as the poetry of the body, the performance explores the fragile boundaries between body and spirit, between inner worlds and collective mythology.
